Ideas for the Last Day of School

It is almost summer! As the last day of school gets closer, do you have a plan for what to do in your classroom? You may have turned in your textbooks, put away your materials, and finished up your curriculum for the year. So what will you do with that classroom full of students who are wiggling in their seats? Here are a few ideas for you!

  • Have a party! This is an obvious choice worth considering, even if your kids are a bit on the rambunctious side. Parties can range from a big celebration with decorations and games to a smaller event with just some snacks, fun music, and time to chat with friends.

  • Photo slideshow! Look back at the school year and reflect by presenting photos of your time together. This can include classroom photos, photos of artwork and projects, and even photos from events like music recitals. Invite students to submit photos or gather them throughout the year for a fun slideshow that will cement their school year memories.

  • Write it down! Together as a class, write down favorite memories and things everyone has learned this year. Or, give students time with journals or paper to write down their favorite parts of the school year.

  • Have a game day! Have your students pair up or create small groups to play games. Games are great for building thinking skills as well as social skills. Plus hearing your students laughing will be a great conclusion to your year as a teacher.

  • Take it outdoors! Play outdoor games, enjoy a field day, or take a nature walk together. Spending time outdoors is a great way to get those last day wiggles out while enjoying the fresh air.

  • Share good wishes for each other! Have students write each other encouraging messages and letters to give their summer a great start.

Whatever you do on the last day of school, make sure to have fun and get ready for a wonderful summer!
